About Destination Antalya

Antalya, one of the world’s most important tourist destinations, is Turkey’s fifth-largest city, located on the Mediterranean coast. This unique city, ranked among the very top globally in terms of tourism services and operational capability, hosts approximately 900 high-standard, classified accommodation facilities. Of these, around 650 are 4- and 5-star hotels, and approximately 400 of them remain operational in November.

With a total capacity of 232,000 rooms and 500,000 beds, Antalya possesses a tourism infrastructure that can compete with many countries on its own. In the context of COP31, the main regions that stand out as accommodation hubs, together with their distance to the EXPO 2016 Antalya Recreation Area (the proposed COP31 venue), are as follows:

Antalya City Centre
– approx. 20 km away, around 30 four- and five-star hotels
Lara / Kundu
– approx. 12 km away, around 35 four- and five-star hotels
Belek
– approx. 24 km away, around 70 four- and five-star hotels
Boğazkent
– approx. 30 km away, around 30 four- and five-star hotels

In the second ring, there are two further major tourism regions located roughly 60 km from the EXPO 2016 Antalya site:
Side
– approx. 60 km away, with more than 100 four- and five-star hotels open in November
Kemer
– approx. 60 km away, with around 40 four- and five-star hotels open in November

Antalya International Airport is Turkey’s second-busiest airport
in terms of passenger numbers, after Istanbul Airport. It is located 13 km from the city centre and approximately 5 km from the EXPO 2016 Antalya area.

The airport has three separate runways: 18L / 36R (3,400 m x 45 m, CAT II) 18C / 36C (3,400 m x 45 m, CAT I) 18R / 36L (2,900 m x 45 m)

Antalya International Airport is operated by Fraport TAV Antalya Terminal İşletmeciliği A.Ş. It is connected to the city by bus, shuttle, taxi and tram lines, and offers a car park with a capacity of 1,923 vehicles, as well as VIP and CIP terminals. The total terminal building area is 330,000 m², and with recent expansions the annual passenger capacity has been increased to 80 million Passengers. It is projected that the year 2025 will close at around 40 million passengers.

With all these figures and this infrastructure, Antalya – with a population of 2,500,000, its strong accommodation capacity, accessibility and high operational capability – has the strength and maturity to host the COP31 Summit in an exemplary and seamless manner. In order to provide passenger and tourist transportation in Türkiye, operators are required to hold a D2 authorization certificate, issued based on detailed criteria by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. All seats used in transportation must be fully insured. In addition, companies wishing to operate in tourism transport must be members of TÜRSAB – the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, and must obtain a separate license and front license plate for each vehicle they use. At Antalya International Airport, where nearly 18 million foreign tourists are welcomed annually at the international terminal, the distance between the meeting points and the vehicle parking areas is short, enabling fast and seamless operational flow. In Antalya, there are approximately 5,000 registered vehicles of various types (van, mini, midi and full-size buses) operated by numerous companies providing these services. A livable world, healthy generations, and a sustainable future.
